Rohana binti Hamid

I came to Bunga Damai after a difficult few months trying to reach a practical arrangement with my former husband about the family home. The letter they drafted on my behalf struck a tone I simply could not have managed myself — firm but not hostile. Things moved forward within two weeks of it being sent.

We had three siblings with three different views on what should happen to our late mother's property. Bunga Damai prepared the mediation brief and helped us understand where our positions actually overlapped. The process took longer than I expected, but the outcome was one all three of us could accept. I do not think we would have reached it without the help.

I remarried last year and wanted to make sure my children from my first marriage were properly provided for. Nur Syafiqah spent three sessions reviewing everything — my property, my will, the arrangements I had in place. What she produced was clear enough that I could read it to my children and they understood exactly what would happen. That matters to me.

My father needed to move in with us and we had to revise a number of arrangements in a hurry. The Comprehensive Review gave us a clear picture of everything that needed updating and an order in which to do it. The fixed fee also helped — I knew exactly what the engagement would cost, which was not the case with previous legal work I had done elsewhere.

I needed a letter to my adult son regarding a family business matter that had been unresolved for almost two years. The letter Bunga Damai drafted was considered and clear — it laid out the situation without accusation. My son responded within a week. The result was not everything I had hoped for, but the channel was open again, and that was what mattered.

The mediation for my parents' estate took four sessions. Tharmenthiran attended all of them and had a manner that kept things from escalating — which they very easily could have. The documents we ended up with were clear and reflected what was actually agreed, not some approximation of it. I would recommend Bunga Damai to anyone facing a similar situation.

The Challenge

A client approaching retirement wished to bring her inheritance arrangements into order before her eldest child's upcoming marriage. She had a will from fourteen years earlier that no longer reflected her intentions, a jointly held property with a sibling, and an outstanding matter relating to her mother's estate.

Our Approach

A Comprehensive Family Affairs Review was conducted across four sessions. We worked through each area in sequence, producing a written summary of the current position and the changes required. Where changes needed action from other parties, we drafted the relevant correspondence.

The Outcome

The client's will was updated, the joint property matter was resolved through a short mediation with her sibling, and the outstanding estate matter was referred to a specialist. She described the process as having lifted a weight she had been carrying for several years.

The Challenge

Two adult siblings had not spoken for three years following a disagreement about the care of their elderly father. The father was now requiring more intensive support and the arrangement could not continue without some form of agreement between them.

Our Approach

We were engaged by one sibling and drafted an initial letter to the other — carefully written to acknowledge the breakdown in the relationship without assigning blame for it. When the second sibling agreed to mediation, we prepared the brief and attended two sessions.

The Outcome

A written care-sharing arrangement was reached and formalised. Both parties described the mediation sessions as the first productive conversations they had had in years. The father was able to remain at home with a clear plan in place.

The Challenge

A client who had recently separated needed to communicate clearly with her former spouse about the family home and the children's schooling arrangements, without the conversation becoming adversarial. She was concerned that any formal legal correspondence would make things worse.

Our Approach

A single letter was drafted that set out both the property and schooling questions in plain terms, proposed a practical approach to each, and invited a direct response. The letter made no threats and used no legal terminology that might signal an adversarial intent.

The Outcome

Her former spouse responded in writing within ten days with a counter-proposal. The two parties reached a practical arrangement between themselves, without the matter proceeding to formal proceedings. A second letter from us was not required.
